The Tastes of 2016 festival takes place during Cape Town’s winter months and involves a special wine paired dinner hosted every second Friday at Vineyard Hotel in Newlands. I attended their Delaire Graff edition a couple of weeks ago, and let me just tell you, it was TOTES AMAZE! We were luckier still to spend a night in one of their 4 star Mountain rooms, which overlooks none other than Table Mountain. This place is so special! For in depth info on how the dinner went, check out my review on Kitchen.net. Otherwise, enjoy these snaps by partner in crime, Jarret Johnson.
Checking in pre Tastes of 2016
How pretty is the hotel from its gardens? Don’t be fooled by it’s relatively cold roadside exterior. Theres magic behind those walls!
The Tastes of 2016 dinner was scheduled to begin at 7pm, so we checked in early and ordered room service first. Obvz.
Tastes of 2016 dinner underway!
Prior to the Tastes of 2016 dinner, we were invited for predrinks and chocolate truffles where we were addressed by the participating winemakers and chefs.
Pre-dinner nibbles. Freshly baked herbed bread, sundried tomato humus and basil pesto butter.
First course entitled “Aubergine.” So so so good.
Quick peak of The Square restaurant in Vineyard Hotel where the Tastes of 2016 dinners are hosted. That tree! Those lights!
Second course was smoked hake risotto, and while yum, it wasn’t very pretty! The third course Parma ham wrapped venison loin was beaut though.
No but seriously, them lights!
A coconut trio dessert makes for instant happiness. Cake, sorbet, tuille…what more??
The morning after Tastes of 2016
This is the view we woke up to the next morning. I melt a little inside every time I look at it.
A night’s stay at Vineyard Hotel includes buffet breakfast. Score!
My favourite thing about Vineyard Hotel is their giant garden. There’s even a river walk that leads you along the gently flowing Liesbeek.
The next Tastes of 2016 dinner, in collaboration with Haskell Vineyards, takes place this Friday, 12 August 2016. Their last dinner is set to run Friday, 21 October. Booking is essential so do so before you miss out! Check out the rest of the Tastes of 2016 schedule HERE.
